Day-by-Day Itinerary

The Adventure Begins The Jibal team will meet you at arrivals—look for the logo. We transfer you to the hotel in Moshi where you meet your fellow climbers. During the evening briefing, we’ll do a gear check to ensure you’re ready take on Kilimanjaro (if you are missing any pieces of gear we can organize gear rental for you there).

Machame Gate (5,400ft) to Machame Camp (9,400ft) We leave the city behind and enter through the Machame Gate. The first day is a sensory overload: lush, green rainforest, thick oxygen, and the buzz of anticipation. The trail winds up a ridge through the mist. (Time: 5-7 Hours Zone: Rainforest)

Machame Camp (9,400ft) to Shira Camp (12,500ft) Today, the landscape shifts. We climb out of the rainforest and onto a steep rocky ridge covered in heather. The trees disappear, the views open up and we arrive at the Shira Plateau. (Time: 4-6 Hours Zone: Moorland)

Shira Camp (12,500ft) to Lava Tower (15,000ft+) to Barranco Camp (13,000ft) This is a critical acclimatization day. We challenege ourselves up to the Lava Tower at 15,000ft. We stop to rest and have our lunch then descend back down to Barranco camp to sleep. You might feel a headache today—that’s normal. (Time: 6-8 Hours Zone: Semi-Desert)

Barranco Camp (13,000ft) to Karanga Camp (13,100ft) Wake up to the beautiful Barranco Wall. It’s the most fun part of the trek. We get our hands on rock, focusing on footing, and bond with the team as we slowly make our way up and. A shorter day to keep your energy reserves high. (Time: 4-5 Hours Zone: Alpine Desert)

Karanga Camp (13,100ft) to Barafu Camp (15,300ft) We connect with the Mweka Trail and push to Barafu Hut. You are now on the South Circuit. The vegetation is gone; it’s just rock, ice, and determination. We eat an early dinner and try to sleep. The summit patiently waits for us. (Time: 4-5 Hours Zone: Alpine Desert) Focus: Rest. Tonight, we climb.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (19,345ft) down to Mweka Hut. We make our way up towards the summit. As we go upwards the sun slowly rises. A final push brings you to Uhuru Peak. You are standing at the highest point in Africa. We make our way back down to Barafu for lunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp. (Ascent: 7-8 Hours / Descent: 4-6 Hours Zone: Arctic)

Mweka Camp (10,000ft) to Mweka Gate (5,400ft) The hard work is done. We descend through the lush forest again, the air growing thick and warm. At the gate we meet our vehicle which takes us back to Moshi to our hotel for a well deserved long, hot shower and a celebration dinner where we will receive our certificates. (Time: 3-4 Hours Zone: Rainforest) Vibe: Pure relief and pride.

We say our goodbyes. We transfer to the airport for your flight back home! You’re leaving with sore legs, new friends, and a story you’ll tell for the rest of your life.
